San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

Day 77-San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. It is bordered by Honduras on the north, Costa Rica on the south, the Caribbean Sea on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Nicaragua has the largest lake in Central America; Largo Nicaragua has over 3,000 miles of shore line. Nicaragua has over 40 active volcanoes. In the flat lands farming is the predominate work due to the rich soil due to the volcanic activity. The population of Nicaragua is 5.5 million and in San Juan Del Sur it 18,500 people. Today we hired a taxi for the day and headed to Masaya. The drive was about 1 hr. 30 mins. As we drove along the high way I was struck on how green and pretty the countryside was. I had to imagine that this country was at civil war just 25 years ago, because it looked so peaceful. We stopped along the way to view Lake Nicaragua and in the back was the view of two volcanoes. The next stop was Lake Catarina. It had a great view and the area was very pretty. There were nurseries with beautiful flowers and plants alongside the road. Then we were off to Masaya. Masaya is known for its craft markets and wood carvings. Of course the time flew by and it was time for the drive back. We did not have the time to visit the city of Granada which I regretted. Over all it was a great experience the people where very nice. Next Port Manzanillo, Mexico.
