Day 17- Cochin, India
From the Navigator - Throughout the early hours of the morning, Dawn Princess continued for south-easterly course down the coast of India towards the Cochin pilot station. Once pilot is onboard and the exchange of information is completed, we will proceed into the narrow Ernakulum Channel and alongside our berth.
LOVED IT! LOVED IT! They say that you either love India or hate it. Cochin is a multi- cultural and religious center. Fort Cochin was settled by the Portuguese in 1500 and Mattancheri right next store, was settled by the Jews in 6th century B.C.. The Cochin area has Catholic Church's, Protestant Church's, Mosques, temples and synagogue's on every corner and they all get along with each other,
We started our day walking to the Ferry building to catch the ferry to the new city of Ernakulum because we were told the Tuk-Tuks were not very safe. The ferry was leaving there just as we arrived. Being quick thinking we grabbed a Tuk-Tuk. We do not regret our decision. We had a wonderful Tuk-Tuk Driver Michael and he was knowledgeable and a very caring person. We had a 6 hour tour around the area. He took us to all the tourist sights. St Francis church, Santa Cruz Basilica, Jew town, Dutch Palace, the Snake Charmer's, Indo Portuguese Museum, Chinese Fishing nets, Koda House, Indian laundry and to the Spa to have a Ayurvedic Massage. I think that we are going to Massage our self's around the world. All in all we had a fantastic day in Cochin India. Next Port Mumbai, India.
