Salalah, Oman

Salahah is in the Dhofar area of Oman. It is near the Yemen Border. We were originally supposed to dock in Muscat, Oman but because of engine trouble we went to Salalah. Salalah is a small town and they do not see many western tourist. They only see about one or two cruise ships a year. Salalah is famous for its frankincense trade. In ancient times, the Dhofar was unusually prosperous because of the Boswellia Trees that produced the aromatic resin that is the basis of the frankincense incense. At one time it was the most expensive perfume in the world. Our first stop was at the Palace and government buildings and then we were off to the old souks, the largest mosque in Salalah, a banana and coconut farm where we had coconut milk, fresh bananas, we also saw young camels and cows, then our last stop was the Museum of the Land of Frankincense and the ruins of the Queen of Sheba's Palace.
